Kadambari and Haimanti: Two Sarees for Autumn

One saree drawn from Bengal terracotta temples, one in the soft yellow of late autumn. The stories behind Kadambari and Haimanti.

Two of our newest sarees were designed with the end of the year in mind. Both are semi muslin with hand block prints, but they could hardly look more different.

Kadambari: temples and old doors

Kadambari takes its patterns from the terracotta decoration on Bengal's old temples and from the carving on vintage Bengali wooden doors. The floral and geometric motifs are printed in mustard yellow, green and deep maroon over a bright red base.

It is 13.5 haat long and holds its pleats well. Wear it to cultural events or festive gatherings, with gold or terracotta jewellery.

Haimanti: the colour of late autumn

Haimanti pastel yellow saree with black block print and lace border

Hemanta is the late-autumn season in the Bengali year, and Haimanti shares its name with it. The body is pastel yellow semi muslin, the achol is textured khadi, and the fine block prints are in black. A white lace border and matching tassels finish it.

At 14 haat it is generous in length, and the soft yellow is easy to wear in daylight.
