Alpona

Alpona

Alpona is Bengali folk art drawn on floors and courtyards for festivals. How alpona patterns appear on Barindra sarees.

Alpona is Bengali folk art: flowing patterns of flowers, vines, lotuses and circles, traditionally drawn by hand on floors, courtyards and doorways in white rice paste for festivals and ceremonies.

Alpona on our sarees

We use alpona-inspired motifs in hand block prints, usually white or red, so the saree carries the same patterns as a festival courtyard.
